One of Dr. Wright’s protocols for the treatment of childhood asthma involves mega doses of B-12. Why? Most often, children who suffer from asthma are also suffering from low levels of stomach acid and pepsin. Stomach acid and pepsin are essential for the breakdown and proper absorption of nutrients from the diet, and without them the absorption of B-12 is hindered. B-12 is a vital component in the detoxification pathways of the liver. Without proper detoxification, toxins build up in the blood stream and this can lead to chronic skin conditions and asthma.
Dr. Wright uses between 1,000 and 3,000 micrograms of injectable B-12 daily, eventually tapering off once the desired effects have been achieved. In 8 out of 10 patients who were not dependent on steroids, wheezing disappeared. Dr. Wright has also found that Magnesium and Vitamin B-6 can be given intravenously during an acute asthma attack to reduce or eliminate symptoms. Taken orally, these nutrients can help reduce the frequency of asthma attacks. Dr. Wright’s dosing instructions are 50 to 100 milligrams of Vitamin B-6 with 200 milligrams of Magnesium three times a day.
Foods rich in B-12 include liver, clams, trout, salmon and fortified cereals. B-6 is found in potatoes, bananas, garbanzo beans, chicken breast and pork loin. Magnesium rich foods include halibut, almonds, cashews, soybeans and spinach. Remember, eating well is a vital part of your health!
