The Hawthorne Effect

To increase productivity, the Hawthorne company decided to study the productivity of their workers under different levels of lighting (specifically low and high).

What happened?
Productivity increased during the study and declined once the study concluded.

Because the workers realized they were being watched, and the level of light was actually irrelevant.
